History of Delhi and Delhi Pin codes 

The original name of Delhi was IndraPrastha, where Pandavas lived, the history of the city was as old as the epic Mahabharata. Delhi was the capital city of the Mughal rulers and the British. Delhi is of great historical significance as an important commercial, transport and cultural hub, as well as the political centre of India. The origin of the name has different views; one such was named for Raja Dhilu, a king who ruled this region in the 1st century BCE. In due course 8 more cities came alive adjacent to Indra Prastha, Lalkot, Siri, Dinpanah, Quila Rai Pithora, Firozabad, Jahanpanah, Tughlakabad and Shahjahanabad

Delhi has been a witness to political turmoil for over five centuries. It was ruled by the Mughals in succession to Khilji and Tughlaqs. Thus the soil of Delhi Pin codes absorbed different cultures, influenced by its rulers.

Qila Rai Pithora(near Redfort)

This city comes under the Delhi Pin Code – 110030. It is the 1st city among seven important cities of Delhi. This comes near Qutub-Minar. Qila Rai Pithora in the reign of Prithiviraj Chauhan, whose ancestors captured Delhi from Tomar Rajputs in the 10th century.

Prithivraj symbolized India’s resistance against Muslim invaders, he built a complex of 27 temples at the site of Qutub-Minar and Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, he ruled Delhi from this long fort until defeat and death.in the second battle of Tarain in 1192 AD. The city remains are spread across south Delhi’s Vasant kunj, kishangarh, Mehrauli and saket areas.

Mehrauli

This is the second important city among the seven cities. This city comes under this Delhi Pin Code – 110030. Qutubuddin Aibak was Ghori’s viceroy from 1193 and took charge as sultan of Delhi in 1206 after the death of Ghori. For the next 6 centuries Delhi has the impact of Islamic culture primarily in architecture

Mehrauli was created by Quttubuddin Aibak and Qutub Minar is a 72.5 meters tall tower of victory completed in 1220 AD stand till today. Other buildings of this Delhi Pin code are Mausoleum of saint Qutb-bi-din, Bhaktiya kaki, Shamsi Tomb, Jahaz Mahal and Tombs of the rulers which belong to the 11th and 12th centuries.

Siri Fort

A Turkish tribe from Afghanistan Khilji rulers, Allauddin Khilji, most famous among them. He expanded his rule across India into the south and built Siri Fort with thick walls using craftsmen from the Saljuqian dynasty in west Asia. This is the third famous old city among the seven. Tughlakabad

This is fourth of the 7 cities, comes under this Delhi Pin Code – 110044. This was built by headstrong Tughlaq, this period is full of terrible battles, invasions, blood shedding and deaths. Tughlaq built a small city between Qila Rai Pithora and Siri Fort.

The Mystical Tomb, secluded in the vicinity of Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, first ruler of Tughlaq dynasty. Once he conquered the throne, he embarked on construction programmes to fortify Tughlaqabad as a ruler and as glorified architecture. Red stone and White marbles were used for embellishing this structure. Ghiyasuddin, his wife and son all the three graves are within this tomb.

Firozabad – Pin Code – 110002

This is the 5th famous old city among the Seven cities of Delhi, built by Feroze Tughlaq next to the river Yamuna. The Palaces boasted Pillared halls and high walls along with mosques, a Pigeon Tower, a water tank & 1500 year Asoka Pillar. This city comes under the Delhi Pin code -110002. 

Feroze Tughlaq built a number of lodges and mosques around Delhi and repaired Sultane Ghor’s Tomb,Qutub Minar,Suraj Kund and Hauz Khas. Firoze’s own Tomb lies in Hauz Khas and Kotla Firoze Shah is a famous sports stadium. Except for the tombs at Lodhi gardens, the Sayyids & Lodhis who followed the Tughlaqs did little for arts and Architecture.

Shergarh – Postal Index Number – 110002

 This city comes around the areas of this Delhi Pin code – 110002. This is the 6th city of seven famous old cities of Delhi. After defeating Humayun in the battle Sher Shah decided to construct another city of Delhi, since building a city was considered an ultimate sign of victory at that time. He opted for the same site of Dinpanah whose construction was razed and replaced with that of another city Shergarh, which was built in the year 1540. Once Humayun won Delhi back in 1555, he completed Shershah’s Qila and ruled from Shergarh till his death in 1556. The last Emperor Bahadur shah zafar was captured and exiled to Rangoon, his two sons and grandsons were killed by the British Captain who caught them.

Shahjahanabad

One of the greatest Mughals, Akbar concentrated all his efforts at Fatehpur Sikri; his grandson Shahjahan built the TajMahal . Also he built one of the 7 cities Shahjahanabad in old Delhi in the 17th century and brought back the focus on Delhi. This seventh old city comes under this Delhi Pin code – 110006.
